The painting represents the Old Fortress (in Greek Παλαιό Φρούριο) is a Venetian fortress located in the town of Corfu, on the promontory which initially sheltered the ancient city formed in the Byzantine era.
Tin Florias was a Greek artist, who began his training on his native island, Corfu, but lived in Paris in the years 1918-1936, exhibiting regularly in Independent Salons. In Paris, he collaborated with the Greek painter Dimitris Galanis (Greece, 1886 - 1966, Paris) in whose studio he met famous artists, Picasso, Henri Matisse, Derain, Bonnard. Galanos was one of the first Greek painters recognized as a member of the international avant-garde.
