Bengt Lindström began his artistic training by attending the Stockholm Academy (1944-1945) and the painting school of Isaac Grünewald .
He then drew with Aksel Jorgensen (en) in Copenhagen in 1946, before staying in Chicago (1946-1947) and settling in Paris.
There, he then worked in the workshops of Fernand Léger and André Lhote.
In 1949, he began painting less figuratively and more and more colorfully.
He had his first solo exhibition in Sweden in 1954 at the Gummesson art fair.
From the 1950s, he participated in several group exhibitions and Salons in Paris (Réalités nouvelles; Salon d'October).
Although often formally linked to the Cobra painting and friend of Jorn, the artist claims more of the Nordic painting of Nolde, Munch or Ensor.
He is also influenced by folk art, Sami mythology and the shamans of the Far North.
In addition to his paintings and prints, Bengt Lindström created public embellishments such as outdoor sculptures and murals. One of his most famous sculptures is the large Y sculpture at Midlanda Airport in Sundsvall-Timrå.
