Ointment pot (medicinal mixture) in bronze with brown patina. Dogon Ethnicity. Period 1st half of the 20th century. Tripod footed pot decorated with characters (ancestors), spiral frieze, pearl and braided links, topped with a crocodile lid (symbol of power) carrying a wise man smoking a pipe (guarantor of fertility and health). Nice lost wax forging work. Origin Burkina Faso. Good condition. Dimensions: height - 34cm diameter - 22.5cm. Careful delivery.

The Dogons are a people of Mali, West Africa. They occupy the region, called Dogon Country, which extends from the Bandiagara cliff to the southwest of the Niger Bend. Some Dogons are settled in the north of Burkina Faso, others are settled in Ivory Coast.
