"Pistol XVIII° - Consulate / 1st Empire - By - G. Merieu In St-etienne (1780/1818)"
Uncommon 18th century officer's pistol transformed into percussion around 1830 with plate positioned on the left side of the pistol. Pistol signed on the lock of the Master arquebusier and gunner "Granger Merieu" in ST-Etienne from 1780 to 1818. He worked in collaboration with the arquebusiers: LEPAGE & BOUTET. Barrel with octagonal sides flared towards the mouth bearing marking in gold letter on the top "TWISTED CANON" (for method of manufacturing the barrel used, i.e. Twisted) and a heart at the level of the end of the barrel on the organ of aiming, straight and zig-zag lines on the borders and floral pattern which makes the transition to these borders make it a beautiful piece of weapon. Monogram on thunder in a golden “LG” cartridge. Sighting device handlebar and eyecup. Uncommon, the forward type plate is on the left side of the weapon (unusual position on a pistol) bearing the marking "Granger MERIEU in ST-ETIENNE". Walnut frame with long barrel up to the end of the barrel. Checkered stock with octagonal metal cap with flat face. Cut-out metal trim and trigger under trigger guard. Baleen wand with nail head type horn tips and metal pigtail at one end, (see photos). Length: 27 cm Length barrel: 13.5 cm Barrel muzzle diameter: 15 mm.
