This Cartel is Stamped on the Cash Box of the Grand and Renowned, BALTHAZAR LIEUTAUD, Master on March 20, 1749. Balthazar Lieutaud (Died May 10, 1780) - Carpenter-cabinetmaker. Paris. Master on March 20, 1749. He distinguished himself in the manufacture of luxury furniture, and made a specialty of clock boxes. Coming from a great line of cabinetmakers, Balthazar Lieutaud obtained his master's degree in 1749. He settled on rue de la Pelleterie then rue d'Enfer. Supplier to the Court, he manufactured luxury furniture but specialized in clock cases, undoubtedly influenced by his watchmaker cousin who had the same surname and first name as him. His stamp can be found on a large number of very high quality regulators adorned with sumptuous bronzes chiseled by the greatest bronziers of the moment such as Caffieri, Edme Roye or Charles Grimpelle. Its clock sheaths are remarkably elegant and very finely executed. If his first works are in the Louis XV style, he very quickly adopted the straight lines and motifs inspired by the antiquity of the following period. Very often he reproduced the same models with slight variations. The Palace of Versailles contains a sumptuous regulator in ebony wood, made of several rectangular bodies, decorated with antique bronzes with bas reliefs symbolizing the different seasons. In much smaller numbers, but still just as luxurious, we can cite chests of drawers, secretaries, corner cupboards, etc. in the Louis XV and Louis XVI style. When he died, his widow kept his workshop for some time, which she abandoned definitively in 1784. (Furniture and Cabinetmakers from the 18th century) Very Fine Quality of Execution, Beautiful Dimensions. Work from the Louis XV Period, Around 1750, 18th Century.
