This drawing is related to the painting kept at the Museum of the Revolution in Vizille: Artists approaching Paestum by the sea, 1793. Jean Jacques François Taurel was born in 1757 in Toulon. He is a student of Dean. He was a marine painter working for the French fleet, close to Henri d'Arles. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1795 to 1817 and especially celebrated the exploits of the French armies. These works were lithographed by Engelman and Langlumé. The Versailles museum preserves from him: The entry of the French army into Naples on January 21, 1799, and that of Bernay, Fire in Toulon.
