Biography Tony Agostini is a self-taught painter. Although passionate about Rembrandt and Paul Cézanne1 at a very young age, it was the prospect of an administrative career in Paris that led him to settle in Montmartre where, in 1944, we found him linked to Francis Carco, Marcel Aymé, and especially the painter Gen Paul2 whose neighbor he is on Avenue Junot. Tony Agostini is part of the La Chignolle fanfare with Gen Paul, Jean d'Esparbès, Frank-Will, Pere Créixams and Marcel Aymé3, and he began painting in 1946, his first pictorial themes being crowd movements and nocturnal Paris4. “Perhaps influenced by Gen Paul in the color which is both clashing and gloomy, in terms of form he observes the strict Cézanne principles, sometimes inflected by Cubism”. Turning then towards landscapes, studio interiors and more essentially towards still life (major theme in his lithographic work), his personal practices of horse riding, cycling and especially rugby nevertheless give meaning to his sending to Salon of painters who witness their time in 1957 with a “vast canvas” entitled Rugby - The tackle1. It was in the same year, 1957, that Tony Agostini moved to Antony, initially at 3, rue d'Alsace-Lorraine, then at 7, rue des Augustins where he lived until his death.
