Eugene of Argence
Born December 4, 1853, died 1920.
Painter, landscape pastellist, seaside pastellist.
He was a pupil of E Giraud. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants from 1890 to 1893 and at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts from 1899 to 1913.
He painted many landscapes of Corsica, Algeria and the surroundings of Paris. The seaside is also among his favourite subjects, the Mediterranean and of course the shores of the English Channel, the Normandy coast.
His works can be found at the Louvre Museum and the Musée D'Orsay.
He also worked for the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and for the Compagnie Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée, an opportunity to express his talents as a painter of the sea.
He was appointed marine painter in 1890.
