Paris, 1853 - Paris, 1919
Portrait of a man from the end of the 18th century sitting on a table
Painting, oil on canvas
Signed
Dedicated: "To Emma Calvé / her friend / Georges Cain"
Painting: 46 x 61 cm
Frame in wood and blackened and gilded stucco: 62 x 76 cm
Good condition, small discreet restorations (see on the back)
History: as the dedication indicates, the painting comes by inheritance from Emma Calvé (1858-1942), famous singer of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.
It is probably a painting representing the main character of "L'ami Fritz", an opera by Mascagni performed in 1891 with Emma Calvé in the role of Suzel.
