Paperolles Reliquary - Late 17th Early 18th Century

In excellent condition, this is an original representation of Jacob's ladder found on a gouache in the central medallion. If the Biblical ladder teaches us "that there is nothing but the house of God and this is the door to heaven", our ladder, of the new Covenant, also leads us there, through the Sacred Heart. A less frightening vision than that offered by the Holy Scriptures. If the theme of Jacob's ladder is essential in the Old Testament, its representation is rarer in the New.
This is, without doubt, the true originality of this beautiful piece. Above and below this medallion are relics of Saints, hardly readable calligraphy.
Gilded wood frame, same period, with numerous old green holes.
