Neo-classical bronze sculpture with double patina representing a draped young woman leaning on a rock. Signed lower right on the base: Maclean. Thomas, Nelson MacLean (1845-1894) was an English sculptor born in London. Around 1860, he came to study in Paris at the School of Fine Arts and became a workshop assistant to Carrier Belleuse after having been his apprentice. He returned to London in 1870 to escape the siege of Paris. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from this date.
