"Large Mass Chalice, Sterling Silver, Brussels 1860"
Impressive Louis XIV style mass chalice in solid silver and vermeil. It is made of solid silver and bears the guarantee hallmarks of the city of Brussels for the period 1831-1868. The master goldsmith's mark allows us a more precise dating between 1862-1866. Guillaume Calot was a brilliant engraver, which explains the exceptional quality of the medallions which decorate the foot of the chalice. It is a Nativity scene (very rare on a chalice), the baptism of Christ and a scene from the Passion. The sumptuous decorations of the knot, the foot and the cup of the chalice also testify to the great know-how of our artist. The gross weight is 730 grams.
