"Maryvonne Méheut (1908-1992) Cassis, Bird's Eye View Of The Harbor"
Stylized, refined, sober and modern, this oil on canvas representing the famous village of Cassis by Maryvonne Meheut, ceramist and painter, daughter of the great Breton artist who settled with his family in Cassis in 1932. The work is offered in a simple golden frame which measures 59 cm by 70 cm and 50 cm by 61 cm for the canvas alone. In its good original condition, only a few cracks from use, it is signed on the back. It represents a bird's eye view of the village from the heights, a few meters from the place where Mathurin Méheut, the artist's father and his teacher had his house built, having come to live near La Ciotat where he was in charge to decorate the Messageries Maritimes liners. In the foreground, rows of vines and olive trees, below the village with its characteristic bell tower and in the background the famous coves of the National Park.
