Painting, oil on canvas signed lower right by the Swedish painter Johan Erik ERICSON (1849-1925) dated 1909. The scene represents a seascape animated by boats at sunset. Good condition, see photos. Beautiful impressionist painting. Johan Eric Ericson, born October 17, 1849 in Karlshamn in Blekinge, died September 26, 1925 in Gothenburg, was a Swedish artist. He was the son of the coffin sculptor Anders Ericsson and Johanna Sjöholm and married Anna Gardel-Ericson in 1882 in Paris. Johan Ericson studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1872 to 1878 and in France from 1878 to 1884, where he joined the painters of light and atmosphere. During his period in France, he was also an assistant in the workshop of Alfred Wahlberg. He was professor of freehand drawing at the Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg from 1885 to 1915 and director of the Valand School of Painting from 1889 to 1890. He was for several years a member of the purchasing committee of the Art Museum of Goteborg and the board of directors of the Goteborg Art Association. His own collection of hand drawings forms the basis of the Gothenburg Art Museum's drawing collection. His art consists of portraits, models and landscape paintings, characterized by a powerful style that becomes increasingly cold and austere over time. He took motifs from Bohuslän, Gotland and Skåne. Ericson's work has been exhibited in several museums, including the National Museum and the Goteborg Art Museum. Ericson is represented in the National Museum, Goteborg Art Museum, Helgsingborg Museum, Ostergotlang Museum, Kolmar Art Museum, Gotlang Art Museum, Norrkoping Art Museum and at the Linköping City Museum.
