Biography:
Ernest CHARLES takes over Maison ULLMANN, Bronzier. The Company, based in Paris, specializes in the reproduction of old lighting fixtures, thus building a notoriety within the artistic bronze casting profession.
In 1920, Emile Albert CHARLES, his eldest son, took over the business and then, in 1932, Emile CHARLES joined forces with his brother Pierre.
The company changed its name in 1933 to “Charles Frères”.
It was in 1959 that Emile CHARLES was joined by his 2 sons: Jean CHARLES, Major of the BOULLE school, interior architecture and wood sculpture section; Jacques CHARLES, graduate of Applied Arts in Interior Architecture. Together they created the “CHARLES Style” combining classicism, rigor and topicality; a new approach in the field of lighting and decoration.
In 1960, they took over Maison FARGETTE. The family, assisted by Jean's wife, Chrystiane CHARLES, signed a new style in the field of lighting and decoration: the famous Pineapple, Corn, Pinecone, Lotus lamps...
Today, Maison Charles perpetuates , always innovates and collaborates with many artists such as FÉLIX AGOSTINI, JEAN BOGGIO, PHILIPPE PARENT, OLIVIA PUTMAN, MICHAEL WAGNER, RAPHAËL NAVOT, PIERRE-YVES ROCHON, JEAN-MANUEL FREITAS....
