Objet Du Curiosité - Naturalia - Wild Septaria Stone flag

Object description :

"Objet Du Curiosité - Naturalia - Wild Septaria Stone"
Magnificent wild Septaria geode, also known as dragon stone. This stone, from the Latin saeptum meaning partition and barrier, owes its name to English mineralogists who discovered it by accident. According to the 19th-century Dictionnaire des sciences naturelles, the rock's former name was helmondite, a term much less commonly used today.

Septaria is a nodule composed mainly of calcite, aragonite and clay, formed during the Cretaceous era 100 to 200 million years ago in marl or clay layers. It contains inclusions of other minerals: quartz, dolomite, baryte, pyrite, gypsum and ammonite,...

The most famous deposits are in Madagascar, but they are also found in Australia, Canada, England, the USA, France and Morocco, for example.
