Hand-woven vintage silk rug made of cashmere in ivory-deep dark blue-cognac-lime green-light blue from the 1970s. signed
The main colour of the rug is a fascinating ivory-beige together with dark blue, light green, cognac, light blue and other delicate tones.
The rug has an oriental ornament in the centre field that is enclosed by loosely arranged very fine flowers and tendrils, followed by 3 surrounding borders. The fringes are 4 cm long.
The rug has an unmistakable lustre that catches the eye from afar.
It varies in beautiful facets depending on the incidence of light. At the same time, pure silk is exceptionally soft, crease-resistant and heat-insulating.
Despite its age, this Persian cashmere is in excellent condition with a healthy pile and no damage or repairs.
Traditionally hand-knotted carpets still represent the highest quality standard of all carpet types. Depending on the type of knot, the carpets are extremely robust and can outlast generations. The finer and tighter a carpet is knotted, the more detailed ornaments and patterns can be depicted on the pile. At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires significantly more manual labour and a higher level of experience and skill on the part of the weaver. The knot density therefore also serves as a decisive value factor for hand-knotted carpets.
This carpet originates from Iran (formerly Persia) and, as a Persian carpet, enjoys the highest reputation of all hand-knotted carpet types.
No other region can look back on such a long tradition of carpet weaving as Iran. Probably the finest and most elaborate carpets come from Persia.
The robustness, durability and quality of the Persian knot are still unrivalled today.
Persian carpets are usually named after their region of origin.
Keshan is a city in the north of modern-day Iran, known for its high-quality wool and silk carpets and is considered one of the most expensive in the world.
This piece is made entirely of silk from the base to the pile.
