"Buffet In “bolle” Marquetry, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century"
Sideboard, in blackened pear wood and Boulle marquetry, richly decorated with bronzes and brass inlays. It opens with a double door, framed, furnished with spandrels in the upper part and darkened with a panel inlaid with tortoise shells and finely chiseled brass, decorated with scrolls, birds, vases, garlands and masks. These doors, decorated with scalloped strips and a bronze joint cover, are equipped with an original functional lock with entrances and key. The interior, all in mahogany, includes a shelf on cleats. Each upright of this buffet, also inlaid, presents in the upper part a man's mask in the hollow of a large volute. These uprights end in large acanthus leaf consoles. The sides also have spandrels. In the center are large motifs depicting a man's head wearing the skin of a dead lion. The whole rests on a projecting plinth, slightly cut, with mascarons, nets and base of lamps decorated with angels. This piece of furniture is topped with white Carrara marble, with gray veins, also with projections and highlighted below by a large strip with egg motifs. This Napoleon III sideboard, a true jewel of French know-how in 19th century cabinetmaking, will delight lovers of exceptional furniture. ******** Period: Mid-19th Century Certificate of authenticity provided.
