This pair of torches rests on a circular terrace with a rich, finely chased decoration of palmettes. The central part of the shaft is fluted and ringed with floral decorations. The cup-shaped foot is also decorated with palmettes.
These bronze models testify to the level of quality achieved by the bronziers under the Restoration. These candlesticks are made up of nine elements held together by a threaded rod. Each piece was cast separately, re-paring, chasing, gilding or varnishing. It is also worth noting the fine quality of the gilding, thanks to both the matting and the burnishing, which makes these candlesticks fine quality pieces under Charles X. The double patina, which can be brown, greenish or simply varnished bronze, was particularly fashionable during the Restoration.
Condition report:
Excellent condition, some wear from use. The pair of torches also has its original threaded rods. Nice condition of the original gilding done with mercury amalgam. Minor oxidation on the varnished parts and wear.
