Charming portrait of a very young girl by Louise Besnard, in a brass frame.

The child is facing the front, she has beautiful blond hair held back by a blue ribbon.
She wears a very vaporous dress with a wide blue belt, reminiscent of her hairstyle.

The portrait is quite hieratic, the model must have been impressed to have her portrait taken during a long posing session.

The face is charming, still babyish, it is superbly done, the gaze is piercing, the mouth is slightly pouty. The complexion is superbly rendered.
As is often the case with these portraits, the face is very detailed and the body is more outlined.

The miniature is signed on the right Mme Besnard.
Louise Vaillant was born in 1812, she married Louis-Adolphe-Ferdinand Besnard in 1838. A student of Madame de Mirbel, she signed her works with the name Madame Besnard. Her husband was a student of Ingres.
She exhibited at the salon between 1845 and 1967.

The portrait is highlighted by a brass frame with pearl decoration.
