Regency style flat desk in double-sided rosewood and violet wood marquetry signed *P.Sormani 10 R Charlot Paris, on 19th century locks. It opens with three belted drawers veneered with violet wood in delicately chiseled gilded bronze foliage frames. Curved sides in rosewood and violet wood marquetry. Lively top inlaid with rosewood in a chevron pattern highlighted with an ingot mold decorated with gilded bronze spandrels, trimmed with tan leather gilded with a small iron. It rests on four arched legs decorated with finely chiseled gilded bronze foliage sticks ending in four small rocaille clogs. Rich ornamentation of gilded bronzes and original gilding in very good condition (small dent or shock? (very slight hollow or depression?) in the ingot mold on the side. Original lock signed "P.Sormani 10 r Charlot Paris" on the top and inside the hallmark of the Parisian locksmith "Duvivier" known for the quality of its production but also for having worked with the largest Parisian workshops of the time such as Henry Dasson, Maison Millet, François LinkedIn and Paul Sormani . *Paul SORMANI (1817-1877) Coming from Italy to settle in France, it was from 1854, rue du Temple, that he began manufacturing furniture of the highest quality of execution. order inspired by the styles of Louis decorated his palaces with beautiful creations by Paul Sormani.
