"Double Pointed Muslin Scarf Embroidered With Beauvais Point - Late 18th Or Early 19th Century"
Circa 1780/1820 France Provence Large fichu or double-pointed shawl in cotton muslin embroidered with Beauvais stitch and openwork with drawn threads. Elegant embroidery of plant scrolls loaded with large stylized pomegranates, and with seeds in the center simulating coats of arms! Possibly from the period of the Ancien Régime or the Restoration. Two spandrels with pomegranates and grasses in the two opposite corners. Fine neo-classical crenellated frieze around the edges. Very fine hand-rolled on two sides. No needle holes or stains, which is unusual! Very good resistance of the fabric which is clean. Exceptional state of conservation. Dimensions: 126cm x 117cm
