"Painting By François Brillaud “the Bath”"
Superb and large living room painting representing two young women going for a swim, on its original canvas and signed lower left, original blackened pear wood frame also in perfect condition. Of extreme quality, this painting was most likely exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in 1899 under the title "Le Bain" and bearing the number 295. Also very close to the painting exhibited at the Salon of 1901 under the title "L'Été" photo black and period white below.. BRILLAUD 1846-1916) was a student of Jules BRETON, he lived in Paris among others on the Butte Montmartre and in Nantes, around 1900 with the advent of Art Nouveau he tried his hand at nudes and genre scenes after having done rural scenes. He also painted some scenes of military life or still lifes. Many of these paintings are preserved, among others, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nantes and that of La Roche Guillon.
