"Paul Chaigneau (1879-1938) “the Herd Of Sheep”"
Oil on canvas signed lower left, titled "The flock of Sheep". The painter belongs to the Barbizon School - he was also born in Barbizon. He followed very early in the footsteps of his father, also a landscape painter, and made flocks of sheep a favorite theme. The sky threatening to turn into a storm opposes the tranquility of this rural scene. The flock has gathered under the supervision of its shepherd. We are in summer, after the harvest, the golden colors give the haystacks a very special presence which is reminiscent of Monnet's paintings. Perhaps they are the main subject of the painting here? Very beautiful stuccoed and gilded frame.
