"“the Forgiveness Of Joy Saint Guénolé”, 20th Century School – 2nd Part 20th"
Oil on canvas from the 20th century school painted during the second part of the said century. This work, signed by the artist, represents a popular scene of forgiveness of joy in the Saint-Guenolé district of the commune of Penmarch in Pays Bigouden. This painting shows a crowd of bigoudens going about their activities on this holiday, particularly near the carousel located a little further on the square. Religious gathering, on the day of forgiveness, the inhabitants wear their most beautiful costumes, signs of social success and wealth. In the 1920s, the arrival of carousels and circuses marked the advent of one of the biggest secular festivals in Brittany. But the Day of Forgiveness is above all a procession during which the sailors thank the Virgin for protecting them. This painting will appeal to lovers of Gwenn Ha Du and Breton folklore. ******** Period: 2nd part 20th Century Excellent condition Shipping possible with careful packaging and appropriate protection.
