"Scandinavian Stool, “globe Garden” Collection. Peter Opsvik, For Stokke"
PETER OPSVIK (Stranda, Norway, 1939). Globe garden chair, 1980s. Beech wood and dyed wool fabric. More than thirty years have passed since Peter Opsvik launched his Globe Garden design, a completely innovative chair whose relaxed structure has become a landmark of Scandinavian design. The Globe Garden, like the other creations that Peter Opsvik still works on today, was conceived as a challenge to the standardization and established norms of the society in which we live: in a world where the triumph of technology has led to a completely sedentary lifestyle. lifestyle, in which we spend hours and hours sitting in front of the computer screen and in which a "unique" posture is imposed on us as the correct posture, the Globe Garden was born as a challenge to conventions, breaking the rules of "how to sit well" or "sit correctly". As the designer himself argues, we should not forget that our ancestors lived in trees. Thus, the chair can be understood as the branches of "a tree that extends through the legs and becomes roots of support. Its tall seats provide a better perspective and better ergonomics, and make it perfect for any dynamic and functional everyday space. Peter Opsvik works with seven others in his studio and, although most of the ideas come from him, they become designs and industrializable products thanks to teamwork. His creations focus on interior design and ergonomics, proposing environmentally friendly solutions. 'environment. Among his most famous designs was the Tripp Trapp, a multifunctional children's high chair that propelled the Norwegian to the pinnacle of Scandinavian design in the 20th century. Opsvik received the Classic Award for Design Excellence in Norway for the Tripp Trapp chairs in 1996 and Håg Capisco. In 2008 he received the Anders Jahre Prize for Cultural and Nordic Design (Nordiska Designpriset). Opsvik also received the Torsten & Wanjas Söderbergs Design Award in Sweden for its innovative and variable furniture and furnishings. In 2013, Norsk Forma (Foundation for Design and Architecture in Norway) awarded Opsvik Jacob-prisen for 2012.
