** Period of the reign of Emperor Kangxi *
Two young servants at the front of the procession lead the way for the prince, while another with a large umbrella to protect the dignitary follows. This beautiful, animated scene is set against a mountainous, undulating landscape, surrounded by rocks, herbaceous mounds and architectural elements; a large plant spreads its broad foliage over part of the vase.
On the upper shoulder, following the young emperor, a line of glowing clouds takes the form of lingzhi mushrooms, a symbol of long life in China; certainly a wish addressed to the worthy figure.
The base of the neck is adorned with a frieze in the shape of ruyi scepter heads, which may also be a stylized representation of a bat - a symbol of happiness and prosperity in China.
The upper edge of the heel is encircled by a double fillet in underglaze blue, as is the neck at the top and bottom.
The reverse is unglazed and unfinished, bearing a relatively old label and the remains of a second one. A black mark, probably representing a Chinese character, can also be seen here.
Condition: there is a hair running from the underside of the bronze frame to the base of the neck, stopping at the iron-red frieze; and almost opposite, there is a larger hair running from the underside of the frame to about 1/3 of the height of the vase, forming an inverted Y, separating into two finer hairs.
Height: 31.5 cm / Max. diameter 24 cm / Weight: 3.345 g
