Object description :

"Volksted (manufacture De) - La Bonne Aventure-porcelain Group. XIX Century"
Volksted Manufacture (Thuringia) - “La Bonne Aventure” or “The Fortune Teller”. Circa 1880. Amusing porcelain group with natural polychrome decoration featuring, near a draped pedestal table on which her tea pot and grimoires sit, an old Bohemian woman with a brown complexion. Hooded in a black stole variegated with silver motifs, she leans over the palm of the hand held out to him by a young, coquettishly dressed gardener (striped scarf on a pink bodice, white apron hemmed with orange nets rolled up over a wide petticoat skirt with cheerful and lively floral motifs, shoes with cockades) displaying on her right arm a flowered wicker basket. Assisted by a mischievous Cupid kneeling at her feet and seeming to whisper to her some answers written on an open folio, the Soothsayer with her face animated by a malignant glow of omen, index finger raised, happy omens. The young woman's rosy cheeks and modestly lowered gaze suggest that she wishes to know the course of a gallant adventure. Endowed with a pleasant picturesqueness, this figurative group takes place on a stony circular base decorated on its terrace and its white enamelled edges with Rocaille ornaments enhanced with gold combed. Inspired by the truculent Bohemian Galantes painted by Antoine Watteau, François Boucher or even the laughing and inventive models created in the 18th century by the Meissen Manufacture, this small, deliciously designed group in German porcelain, with vibrant colors nuanced with delicate hues, stands out with a touch both expressive and precise which make it a quality piece. At the dawn of the Year 2014, this small porcelain piece on the subject of "The Good Adventure" will seduce any follower of the prestige of Palmistry, will augur loving omens to each one. ------------ Marks: Mark, on the back of the base, painted blue under cover. Materials: hard porcelain with natural polychrome decoration and gold combed on the terrace and the edge. Dimensions: H.: 21 cm;- L.: 17 cm;- Base: 17x17 cm. Thuringia (Germany), Rudolstadt-Volksted porcelain factory End of the 19th century-Early 20th century. Circa 1900. Good condition. Very fresh colors.
