"H/t Portrait Of Sappho 19th Century"
Large decorative painting representing Sappho who was an ancient Greek poetess who lived in the 7th and 6th centuries BC in Mytilene on the island of Lesbos. Very famous during antiquities, his poetic work only survives in fragments. She is known for having expressed in her writings her attractions to other women, hence the term "sapphism". This painting shows Sappho leaning against a rock facing the sea and holding a musical instrument in her hands. Presented in a later frame, this large canvas is in very good condition and very decorative.
