"Amédée De Caranza. Iridescent Effect Vases."
Vase with floral decoration with iridescent effects signed Amédée de Caranza. Amédée de Caranza was born in Istanbul (Turkey) in 1840. He is a complete artist: painter and excellent decorator on earthenware and glass. He came to work in France at a very young age. In 1870, he joined the Longwy earthenware factory and took charge of the workshop dedicated to decorating pieces using Japanese-style cloisonné enamels. He left the earthenware factory in 1875 for that of Jules Vieillard, in Bordeaux. He then worked at Clément Massier in Vallauris. Jeanne Duc began working as a decorator with him and became his wife. Amédée de Caranza collaborates for the Venetian factory Salviati in Murano and creates a series of vases for Val Saint Lambert. These pieces are very decorative, close in appearance to ceramic with metallic reflections giving iridescent effects. From 1903 to 1906, he became a brilliant collaborator with Henri Copillet in Noyon in Oise where he specialized in the execution of pieces of artistic glassware. Amédée de Caranza marks his works either with copper red or gold. He died in 1912.
