This service includes a vegetable bowl (29 x 18 cm), 2 bowls (20.5 x 12.5 cm), an oval dish (35 x 25.5 cm), and two round dishes (diameter 32.3 cm and 29 cm). Haviland Porcelain: Merchant, David Haviland created an earthenware and porcelain importing business in 1838 in New York. In 1842, David Haviland settled in Limoges, the world capital of porcelain, and created the Haviland workshop, the future cradle of a precious art and know-how. He made Limoges the cradle of limitless art, the world capital of porcelain. He began writing the history of the Haviland family, a name synonymous with the art of French luxury that continues to this day. In 1864, Haviland became the most important French porcelain factory. Certain Royal families and heads of state around the world have succumbed to the charm and prestige of this Limoges porcelain. Among them we find the wife of Napoleon III: Empress Eugénie, President Jacques Chirac, Prince Rainier of Monaco, as well as Presidents Roosevelt and Lincoln, to name but a few.
