Marius Hubert-Robert (1885-1966)
Marius Hubert-Robert is the great-grandson of the famous painter Hubert-Robert (1733-1808).
His ancestor, recognized and renowned for his historical landscapes, settings or ruins, was imprisoned under the Terror, and owed his life only to a confusion of name.
Also a very talented painter, Marius Hubert-Robert was fortunate to have the Astor family as a patron, who allowed him to travel around the world and bring back from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Morocco , from Algeria, but also from Laos, Cambodia, Indochina, Greece, Crete and Spain.
From his many travels, he brought back numerous paintings or watercolors with sparkling and flamboyant colors and the serene atmosphere that made his reputation.
A designer fascinated by travel, he illustrated numerous works or simply created their covers, such as “L’Indochine” by Robert Chauvelot, “Couleurs de Sang” by Gustave Aubry, “Le Maroc” by Pierre Dumas; etc...
