"Engraving Philippe Cattelain"
Engraving of an old volunteer from the war of 1870, by Philippe CATTELAIN (1838 - 1893). Dedication on the board, on the left: "to Sergeant Baptiste Bourget having contracted blackpox during a painful retreat to Paris. He finished the war as a delegate to the Security. When the war was over, he served 3 years in prison, then returned to engraving, working for Charles Cousin (rich and famous bibliophile), then participated in his first salon. After a complicated end of life, worn out prematurely by the trials he went through, he died on September 10, 1893 at the age of 53. His engravings are rare and sought after. The engraving offered is in perfect condition , in its original format, without stains, foxing or folds.
