"Gérard De Nerval – Signed Autograph Letter"
Autograph letter signed to the publisher Hippolyte Souverain. [Paris, June-July 1850]; 1 page in-8° Letter about the new edition of Scenes from Oriental Life first published in 1848 by the publisher Sartorius. The two volumes were subsequently taken up by the publisher Souverain in 1850. This year marked the completion of his travel stories with the publication, the following year, of Voyage en Orient. Nerval begins by complaining about the delay in the publication of “Confidences de Nicolas” in the Revue des Deux (published in serial form during the summer of 1850, they will be taken up in volume in Les Illuminés in 1852): “I was further postponed by 15 days because of news from Mérimée. If you were concerned about the amount I would ask Buloz who owes me a lot since I have 50 pages printed and forty more done and I only owe him 260 f. If you can wait I would prefer it so as not to bother him but in the event that it is further delayed I promise to have them given to him on the 15th without fail. Besides, Sartorius arrives in four to five days at what he writes. I will try to come see you tomorrow (…) I put a good ad in the magazine now I have more time I will take care of it. I will have an article in Le Siècle. »
