Wonderful Kashmar or Kachmar rug, in hand-knotted kork wool in the Mecched region, Khorassan province, in very good condition circa 1960/1970. This exceptional carpet has an incredible field of beauty covered with a decor teeming with arabesques, foliage, plants, excavation objects, vases. Highland wool called kork on cotton weft for around 350,000 knots per M2, a real "eye-catcher".
This exceptional piece measures 290 cm wide by 380 cm long. Velvet, fringes and selvedges in very good condition.
The shades that make up this rug are: pale blue, midnight blue, orange, ivory, deep red, mouse gray, old rose, black, wine red and curry yellow. Khorasan or Khorasan rugs: hand-knotted rugs from the Khorasan province, in northeastern Iran.
These tightly knotted rugs have a cotton warp and carry typically Persian decorations, such as medallions, palmettes, arabesques, and mir-e butha or herati motifs and can contain surahs from the Koran, which remains increasingly rare.
The city of Kasmar (کاشمر) has a great history, its old name is Torshiz. Its rugs are of very high quality and they have been woven for centuries thickly with soft wool and certainly remain the most comfortable of the Persians (see my other Kashmar on my gallery) ## The very soft and fine kork wool is the wool taken from under the neck and belly of the lambs only at the first shearing. The characteristics of Kashmar rugs are the large sizes and unique designs, such as paintings representing trees, flowers, vases or decorations of Persian architecture. They often represent important historical events in Persian history. In Kashmar, masterpieces of great harmony of colors, complexity of designs, and details are woven which show the Persians' love for art and beauty. Kashmar rugs are a delight for decorators, they are resistant and as they age they become more and more beautiful. This rug has been professionally and eco-friendly cleaned.
