Description :
This unique piece is made from very high quality solid Asian ebony, called “黒檀” Kokutan.
Unlike relatively cheap and uniformly colored African ebony, Asian ebony, which is also a hard and dense wood, is brown in color with light veins. It is one of the most expensive ornamental precious woods in the world. Unlike most woods, ebony is dense enough to sink in water. The durability and general recognition enjoyed by beautiful objects made from woods as rare as Asian ebony are unwavering and highly appreciated by aesthetes.
This Kokutan Katakake, entirely hand-carved in a wave pattern, combined with a shiny polished finish which brings out all the veins of the wood, gives it a unique and very graphic appearance.
