This sculpture of the Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian made by a German school, dates from the beginning of the 16th century.
With the development of a strong interest in the body and its representations, the iconography of Saint Sebastian, one of the most famous Roman martyrs, developed by portraying the martyr in young features and above all by endowing him with a muscular and robust.
The presence of the loincloth with its folds, very characteristic of the period, delicately accessorizes the virile nude.
Tied to a post where his clasped hands are tied, he does not appear to be in a state of suffering. The extension of his body makes his ribs protrude. Her face with fine features, closed eyes, framed by very well-defined thick brown curls, reveals a state of grace, peaceful.
His feet are firmly anchored on the base on which we can read: St Sebast, Ora pro nobis.
This sculpture is in very good condition, with slight losses due to time (wrist and tips of a few fingers) and a hole where a missing arrow must have been.
