a patinated bronze representing Davis victorious over Goliath. Signed A.Mercie on the terrace, F. Barbedienne founder, No. 395, and Colas mechanical reduction stamp. Height 73cm When he composed his David in 1869, Mercié was a resident at the French Academy in Rome. Its ambition is to renew the representation of this biblical episode recounting the victory in duel of the young shepherd over the giant Goliath, while placing itself in the lineage of the great bronze casters of the Florentine Renaissance, notably Donatello and Verrocchio.
