"Luxurious Hand Screen Period 1830 - 1840"
Precious hand screen of English origin, used to protect yourself from the heat of a fireplace fire, from the first half of the 19th century. This delicate object is presented as a candlestick, it contains inside the precious circular fan intended to be stuck on the support in the shape of a fleur-de-lys. This bracket can tilt slightly left or right and serves as a screw cap. Very beautiful chiseled decoration of the shaft with neo-Gothic architecture representing a series of lanceolate arcatures topped with pinnacles; made of patinated brass, it bears the trademark of the English house Day B., Birmingham. Inside the decoration, we can see two circular medallions in which is inscribed: BUNCHER BIRMINGHAM. Solid base weighted with a cast iron disc. The screen is in moiré silk in tones that are sometimes golden, sometimes turquoise, it is mounted on a brass rod; visible wear and tear on the fabric. This type of screen could be made of paper, but here it is a more precious model made of silk, which was protected after use in the cylindrical case. I am attaching, for information, the photo of another copy with the label stuck under the base of the English manufacturer. The Day B house, specializing in numerous domestic accessories, enjoyed enormous success with its contemporaries, including the English royal family. Note: a rare item to find. Delivery: €15 for mainland France.
