"Flachéron Isidore (1806 - 1873) – Women At The River In The Surroundings Of Aix-les-bains"
Very beautiful rural scene at the water's edge. 4 women appear to be washing clothes in different parts of the river. A fifth, which it is specified at the back of the painting that it is the painter's sister, stands back to the right of the scene, against a rock. The colors of the trees and the movements of the water are remarkably rendered.Oil on canvas.
Very good condition, minor invisible restorations, clean. At the top of the canvas, we note a discreet old mark due to the pressure of the frame. Whitened wood frame, very good condition.
Son of the architect Louis-Cécile Flachéron, Isidore Flachéron entered the School of Fine Arts in Lyon in 1824 where Pierre Révoil became one of his masters. Becoming friends with the younger generation of painters in his city, he joined some of them in Ingres' studio in Paris. In 1831, the young painter left France for Italy and quickly settled in Rome. During a stay in Subiaco in 1832, Flachéron stayed in a pension with Hector Berlioz. Two years later, Ingres arrived in Rome to take charge of the Villa Medici. From Rome, Isidore Flachéron participated in the Paris Salon in 1833, exhibiting views of Italy. He subsequently alternated his shipments depending on the years between the Paris and Lyon salons without leaving Rome permanently. Flachéron left Italy in 1845 and settled in Nice with his family. He died in Hyères in 1873.
His works have been the subject of numerous public sales and are exhibited in various museums in France.
