"Dinner In The House Of Simon The Pharisee"
This small painting is a sketch from the workshop of Pierre Subleyras' wife, Maria Felice Tibaldi Subleyras. The painter painted a much larger picture (215 × 679 cm) in 1737 for the refectory of the convent of Santa Maria Nuova in Asti which, requisitioned by the Napoleonic armies, is today preserved in the Musée du Louvre, under the name of "Dinner in the house of the Pharisee". Pierre Subleyras and his wife enjoyed trying different combinations of character positions within their sketches, to see which was the best to put on canvas.
