Historical watercolor representing the Trocadéro palace as it was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1878 Although the building was not intended to survive the event, it was ultimately preserved for around sixty years. It is the subject of numerous criticisms concerning its architectural style; its gradual dilapidation and the poor acoustics of its large hall meant that it was quickly deserted by orchestras. It was dismantled in 1935 in preparation for the 1937 Universal Exhibition, to make way for a new building, the Palais de Chaillot.
As for the author, it is probably André Gillet, an artist born in Trouville-sur-Mer, who exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants from 1934.
