"Old Kachkai, 113 X 200 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool On Wool, Persia, Iran, Late 19th To Early 20th Century"
Here is a real old Kachkaï, with a superb nomadic decor and colors obtained naturally.
Gashghaï or Kashkaï carpet decorated with two large flowered medallions with an ivory background with stairs and pendants, placed on a midnight blue field covered with flowers, stylized animals, trees of life, ..... the whole surrounded by a border with geometric decoration and four spandrels with a floral ivory background. The weft of these old carpets is in dyed wool, almost always in red-brown or brown, curry, passing twice after each line of knots. The thickness of old Kachkaï is always fine, three to four mm, which differs from contemporary carpets, thick with a loose pile. Beautiful model in muted but bright colors, from the second part of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century, measuring 143 cm wide by 200 cm long. In high quality wool on wool, originating from the region of Shiraz in Persia, today Iran, in very good condition, due to its great age.
The mixed hair fringes are in good condition. They often include goat, sheep, camel and horsehair wool, a mixture found in most ethnic rugs from Iran, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Maghreb. Muted, earthy colors , midnight blue contrast with the light, indigot, white, pink, orange, curry, mustard, placed on the dark field, causing a luminous contrast. These old rugs are essentially dyed with natural, mineral and plant products, which is why the colors are still so beautiful today.
The highly complex design reveals numerous tribal motifs and other stylized plants that we always encounter on these rugs. Two braids, indigo blue decorated with carnations separated by sticks, run along the border, with stylized, round and square flowers and elegantly decorate the perimeter. The edge of old rugs from this family is always colored, blue, red or brown. We find in our model, silhouettes of roosters, which suggests the paradise of Zoroaster, the immortality which will reward those who observe with zeal the imposed religious practices.
These very beautiful tribal rugs are knotted in the region of Shiraz, a region located near ancient Persepolis which gave its name to Persia, now Iran. Shiraz is in the province of Fars where the Gashghai tribes reside and still produce carpets today under the two names, Shiraz or Ghashghaï. Kachkaï carpets are also called Turki-Shiraz and represent the most appreciated pieces of ancient Shiraz production. ## Old Kachkai like our model, whose polychromy is warm and harmonious and the knotting is fine and tight, are often also referred to under the name "Shiraz of Mecca". This name was intended to inform the buyer of the high quality of the carpet, worthy of serving as a gift for the Muslim pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. In view of all of these aforementioned elements, we are faced with a very beautiful ethnic collection rug.
Knotted several decades ago with passion and devotion, it meets the criteria of very beautiful Kachkaï.
