"Yela Mask Drc Democratic Republic Of Congo"
Yela mask from the Democratic Republic of Congo, design very particular to the Yelas with these large vertical sculpted and polychrome streaks in black and white, minimalist and abstract mask as often with them. Light wood in fairly good condition, note wear, dents and small losses due to use and the obvious age of the mask, beginning of the last century or end of the 19th. Very beautiful patina with worn parts and others with greasy and lumpy deposits, height 26 cm. These masks were discovered in the 1970s, before it was thought that the Yelas did not have them because they were secretly kept in the forest. Provenance: Belgian gallery of historian Richard Dams.
