This finely crafted pot is surrounded by two stems, each ending in a chrysanthemum flower. In Hanakotoba, the chrysanthemum symbolizes Truth. The chrysanthemum flower is also linked to the Imperial Family, so by extension it evokes nobility, dignity and power. In the Meiji era, a design based on the chrysanthemum motif with sixteen double petals was established as the official emblem of the imperial family. In Japanese culture we also associate this flower with joy and longevity. In Japan, a chrysanthemum petal at the bottom of a glass of wine will bring a long, happy life to the person drinking the beverage. Finally, yellow chrysanthemums symbolize the sun and immortality in Japan. An object carrying strong Japanese symbolism and made to bring luck, courage, honor and prosperity.
