Its pure, sober lines give it an elegant appearance. The slightly convex, invisibly hinged lid is set into the vertical structure flush with the top of the sides; at the top edge, the front face is worked in a quarter-round shape, forming a doucine. A quarter-round opening index blends perfectly with the object's clean lines.
The mitered sides are joined by wooden tongues acting as keys (you can see this detail, a sign of quality workmanship, on the last photo, seen from below).
Please note that the surface has a stamped varnish finish that is not visible in the photos.
The item is in very good condition, although it does show some minor signs of use and a machining mark close to a front corner, but this is hardly visible, only from the side on close inspection.
