Pair of patinated bronze dragon lamps. The lamps were originally oil lamps, later converted to electricity. Lamps in the shape of vases climbed by dragons with three toes on each limb. The shape is reminiscent of the slender dragons of the Chinese Ming dynasty. The attributes of the Japanese dragon or ryū are water, sea, air and clouds, and it is a positive symbol associated with good powers. The base of the lamps is openwork.
