Soapstone sculpture probably representing the goddess of mercy - Guanyin - and at the same time one of the most important bodhisattvas of Buddhism, the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. The goddess is dressed in dignified and fanciful robes, with a beautiful hairstyle on her head and a fan in her hand.China, Qing dynasty, late 19th century/early 20th century.
