Pierre Doutreleau is a French painter born in Arles in 1938. At the age of 20, he discovered the work of Nicolas de Staël and then began painting, encouraged by his friends who saw his work and motivated him to exhibit. He then met Lucile Manguin, who had just opened the Galerie de Paris, thanks to Hélène Cingria and they signed a contract together in 1964. In 1968, during a trip to the United States, he had a real artistic breakthrough and takes a passion for the themes of speed and movement. Two major series are present in his work: mobility and fixity. At the beginning of his work, Pierre Doutreleau essentially painted immobile surfaces. He subsequently developed an interest in cinema and television, then in sport and athletes. His ambition is to paint movement to translate life. He wants his work to be a call to travel, to discover the world and to love. To do this, he mixes two ingredients: drama and pleasure, for a quest for beauty, joy, and pain.
