Object description :

"Pair Of "aux Puttis" Candelabra After Clodion Late 19th Century"
Pair of gilded bronze candelabra with double matt and shiny patina representing a couple of putti seated on a finely chiseled stump from which branch foliage decorated with bunches of grapes forming the arms of light held by the couple of inverted putti (left, right ). They rest on a white Carrara marble base decorated with foliage and clusters of grapes in finely chiseled and gilded bronze ending in four small foliaged top feet. Original double patina mercury gilding in very good condition, cleaned by our workshop. We currently have a similar model of larger dimensions (see photos) Model directly inspired by the works of Claude MicheL known as Clodion* This model of candelabra enjoyed immense success in the 18th and 19th centuries, and was, at that time, particularly sought after.. It was available in various variants. Claude Michel known as Clodion born in Nancy on December 20, 1738, died in Paris on March 28, 1814, famous French sculptor from the Adam sculptor dynasty, he won the first prize for sculpture in Rome in 1759 with "Absalon had his brother Ammon killed in a feast", he studied for three years at the Royal School of Protected Students, then left for Rome in 1762. In 1781, he married Catherine Flore Pajou, daughter of the sculptor Augustin Pajou.
